Inventory Of Virtualization Objects
The inventory of the virtualization objects is implemented with a PowerShell script. The inventory can run automatically or manually.
You can inventory the following virtualization objects:
- VMware vCenter Server (Virtualization Management Server)
- Citrix XenServer Cluster (Virtualization Management Server)
- VMware vShpere Server (Virtualization Host)
- Citrix XenServer Host (Virtualization Host)
Required File And Network Access Rights
Please note the following requirements for a successful inventory:
- READ access to the DSM share
- READ access to the DSM share directory (NTFS)
- Network connection to the virtualization objects you want to inventory.
Automatic Inventory
The Buiness Logic Auxiliary Service performs the automatic inventory. You can configure the automatic inventory with two settings in the configuration table (ICDB).
To access the DSM share, the service uses the same user account that its Management Point uses to access the associated depot. The NTFS access rights for the depot are implicitly specified by the depot account. The user account for the depot is also used for network accessto the virtualization objects that are included in the inventory.
If you have created a Virtualization Management Server in the DSM virtualization tree, the system automatically displays the managed Virtualization Hosts after detecting them. You can neither delete nor move them manually
During automatic inventory, the system currently does not determine any directory structures of Virtualization Management Servers or Virtualization Clusters. However, you can reproduce these structures with OUs in the DSM virtualization tree, if necessary.
Inventory Order
The inventory of the objects of the DSM virtualization tree runs in the following order:
- Virtualization Hosts
- Virtualization Cluster (Xen)
- Virtualization Management Server
Manual Inventory
A manual inventory of Virtualization Management Servers and Virtualization Hosts is also possible by using the context menu command Activate inventory.
You can also inventory individual Virtualization Hosts of a Virtualization Management Server that have been determined automatically before.
