Site Definition

Each site symbolizes a logical assignment of managed computers and depots. To logically assign the clients, use a shared characteristic of the clients (e.g. a range of IP addresses). The process is called site definition.

All the depots in a site provide identical resources. This is guaranteed by DSM's distribution mechanism.

When there are several depots in a site, there is an automatic load balancing and fault tolerance when executing packages. You can configure the load balancing between the depots in a site.

The division of a network into a number of sites can, for example, reflect the different locations of an enterprise that are linked by a WAN or various departments within a building.

Starting with DSM 2024.2, the system also supports the IPv6 address format; the sites in the figure above may also reside in IPv6 address ranges.
