Passcodes Payload
A passcodes payload specifies requirements for the passcode that the user sets in order to access the device. If there is more than one passcodes payload applied to the folder a device is in, only the payload with the highest priority will be sent to the device. You can view the payloads that have been sent to the device by viewing the device details.
Devices with this payload will force users to set a passcode by displaying the screen unlock settings screen. While users can cancel out of the screen, it will continue to reappear until a password is set.
A passcodes payload has the following options:
Password Parameters
Minimum length |
The minimum number of characters the passcode is allowed to have. |
Password age |
The length of time in days that a user can use the passcode before he is forced to choose a new one. |
Password history |
Sets how many passcodes in a row must be unique. This prevents the user from using the same passcode too frequently. |
Inactivity and Failed Login Attempts
Screen timeout |
The length of time in minutes of inactivity before the screen locks. |
Failed logins |
The number of failed attempts to unlock the device before all data on the device is erased. |
Alphanumeric Settings
Require alphanumeric passwords |
Only allows alphanumeric characters in the passcode. Symbols or punctuation are not allowed. |
Numeric characters |
The minimum number of number characters allowed in the passcode. |
Alpha characters |
The minimum number of letters allowed in the passcode. |
Symbol characters |
The minimum number of symbol characters allowed in the passcode. |
Lowercase characters |
The minimum number of lowercase letters allowed in the passcode. |
Uppercase characters |
The minimum number of uppercase letters allowed in the passcode. |
If you are managing devices using Android Enterprise work profile mode, you can create passcode requirements for the work profile using an Android Enterprise Passcodes payload. When you create an Android Enterprise Passcodes payload, you can select whether you want the payload's passcode requirements to apply to just the work profile or to both the work profile and the device. Password Parameters
Force user to use passcode |
Forces the user to create a passcode and use it in order to unlock the device. |
Allow simple passcodes |
Allows the user to have repeating characters or simple sequences in the passcode, such as 1234 or DDDD. |
Require alphanumeric |
Only allows alphanumeric characters in the passcode. Symbols or punctuation are not allowed. |
Minimum length |
The minimum number of characters allowed in the passcode. |
Password age |
The length of time in days that a user can use the passcode before he is forced to choose a new one. |
Passcode History |
Sets how many passcodes in a row must be unique. This prevents the user from using the same passcode too frequently. |
Complex characters |
The minimum number of complex characters allowed in the passcode. Complex characters include symbols or punctuation, such as % or !. |
Inactivity and Failed Login Attempts
Failed logins |
The number of failed attempts to unlock the device before all data on the device is erased. |
Grace period |
The number of minutes after a screen locks that the user can unlock the device without entering the passcode. |
Auto-Lock |
The length of time in minutes of inactivity before the screen locks. |
