Connecting iOS Devices

Smart devices using iOS 5.0+ can be enrolled in Avalanche. Before iOS devices can connect to Avalanche, you must supply Avalanche with an Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) certificate. For more information, see Obtaining an APNS Certificate for iOS.

Smart devices also require an SSL certificate to securely connect to the smart device server. For more information, see Obtaining SSL Certificates.

Creating an enrollment rule

You must create at least one enrollment rule in the Avalanche Console in order to connect iOS devices to Avalanche.

1.In the Navigation Tree, select the region or folder you want to create a rule for and click View.

The Details page appears.

2.Click Add in the Enrollment Rules panel.

The Enrollment Rule dialog box appears.

3.Enter an enrollment ID and password in the text boxes.
Each enrollment rule must have a unique ID. We recommend that enrollment rules use IDs that indicate the purpose of the enrollment rule.

4.If you want the device to display a End User License Agreement (EULA) to the device user, you can upload one of your own or modify the template provided by Ivanti. Click Download template to view the sample template, or click Browse to upload your own text file.

5.Click Save.

6.Click the Needs Deployment in the upper right corner of the Details page.

7.Select Deploy Now.

-Or-

Select Deploy Later and enter a date and time for the deployment.

8.Click Finish.
A system message will appear in the console when the deployment is completed.

Connecting an iOS device to the Avalanche server

1.From the device, use a browser to navigate to:

https://[Smart device server address]/mdm/

For the server address, use the smart device server's hostname or IP address. Unless the IP address is publicly available, it can only be accessed by devices connected to your local area network.

2.Provide the Enrollment ID and Password.

3.Click Enroll.

The device is placed in the folder associated with the enrollment rule and receives the smart device profiles applied to the folder.
