Remote Control for Android Devices

Avalanche integrates with Splashtop Smart Device Remote Control so you can view and control any connected Android device from the Avalanche Console by pressing a single button. To use Splashtop remote control with Android devices, the device must have the Splashtop platform service and streamer installed. The platform and streamer are specific to the device manufacturer.

Before distributing the Splashtop software to devices, you will need to:

Obtain the Smart Device Remote Control software from the Community download site. This will include the Smart Device Remote Control Gateway, the Desktop Viewer, and the appropriate device platform service and streamer for each device manufacturer you use.

Install and set up the Smart Device Remote Control Gateway (also called Splashtop Center) and Desktop Viewer. For information about these tasks, see Installing Splashtop Components in the user guide.

Obtain an SSL certificate for the Smart Device Remote Control Server. For information about certificates, see Obtaining SSL Certificates.

Obtain Splashtop licenses from your Ivanti sales representative.

Adding the Splashtop software to the Central File Store

The Central File Store is a data repository where you can keep all of the files you use with Avalanche. Keeping the software files on the Central File Store makes them easily accessible from the Avalanche Console, helps spread out traffic between servers, and reduces reliance on poor network connections.

1.Download the appropriate Splashtop platform services and streamers from the Community download site.

2.In the Avalanche Web Console, click Tools > Central FileStore.

3.Click the Manage FileStore button.

4.Click Import File.

The FileStore Import dialog box appears.

5.Click Select File and Import.

The File Explorer appears.

6.Select one of the Splashtop platform service or streamer files and click Open.

The file is imported into the Central FileStore.

7.Repeat for any additional platform services or streamer files.

Distributing the Splashtop software to devices

Distribute the Splashtop software to devices using smart device profiles and software payloads.

It is important that the platform service is installed on the device before the streamer. To do this, create a payload and profile for each platform and streamer then schedule their deployments sequentially.

Creating a Splashtop software payload

Add the Splashtop software to software payloads to enable profiles to distribute it to devices.

1.Navigate to the Profiles tab.

2.In the Available Payloads panel, click New.

The New Payload dialog box appears.

3.Enable the radial button next to Android.

4.Select Software.

The Payload dialog box appears.

5.Enter a name for the payload.

6.Under Software hosting, select Manifest URL.

7.Click the Search icon.
The Search dialog box appears.

8.Select the Splashtop file and click Select.
The Package ID and Package Version will be auto filled.

9.Click Save.

Repeat this process for all platform service and streamer files.

For detailed information about software payloads, see Software Payloads in the user guide.

Adding a software payload to a smart device profile

After creating the software payloads, add them to smart device profiles to install them on devices. You will need separate profiles for platform services and streamers.

1.Navigate to the Profiles tab.

2.Click New Profile in the Available Profiles panel.

The New Profile dialog box appears.

3.Click Device settings and contents under Smart Devices.

The Smart Device Profile dialog box appears.

4.Enter a name for the profile in the Name text box.

5.Select the Enabled check box.

6.Select the software payload you want to add to the profile.

7.Click Save.

Repeat this process for all platform service and streamer payloads.

Applying a smart device profile to a folder

Once you have created a smart device profile and added the software payload to it, apply it to folders to distribute the software to devices. First, deploy the platform services to your devices, then deploy the streamers.

1.In the Profiles tab, use the Navigation Tree to navigate to the region or folder where you want to apply the profile.

2.In the Available Profiles panel, select the check box next to the name of the profile and click Apply.

The Selected Profiles screen appears.

3.Click Apply to apply the profile without deploying it.

-Or-

If you want to schedule a deployment, click Schedule Deployment and configure the deployment options.

Connecting to an Android device from Avalanche

Before the Avalanche Console can begin a remote control session with a device, the device needs to be logged in to the service. Launch the app from the device and enter the credentials you set during the Smart Remote Control Server set up. After the initial log in, it will connect automatically when the Avalanche Console begins a remote control session.

A JSON file can be used to bypass the initial manual log in requirement, enabling you to configure remote control completely through Avalanche. For information about creating this JSON file, see Creating a JSON File for Smart Device Remote Control in the user guide.

Beginning a remote control session

1.In the Avalanche console, navigate to the Inventory tab.

2.Click the device you want to connect to in the Mobile Devices panel.
The Mobile Device Details page appears.

3.Click the Remote Control icon at the top of the page.
A remote control session begins.

Once you are connected to a mobile device, you can access the Registry Explorer, File Explorer, and Process Manager using the available icons in the Tools panel.
