How to Automatically Configure Applications

You can configure applications into license units so that you can report on them.

This procedure applies to Windows applications.

To automatically configure license units:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Automatically Configure Applications.

  2. In the dialog box that opens, decide whether you want only exact match files configured into license units, or if you also want to include close match files.

    Exact match files are those that exactly match the file name and file size of known applications in the Cherwell Software Identification Database (CSID). Close match files may have the same file name as a known application, but the file size may be slightly different.

  3. Click Yes to begin the automatic configuration process. This may take a few moments to complete.

Running this automatic configuration feature when you first start using the product is recommended, and this process should find and properly configure most, if not all, of the applications you want to monitor.
