Upgrade Considerations for CSM 10.4.0

Find important information to help plan your upgrade to the latest version of CSM.

Restricted Server Access for Some Tokens and One-Step™ Actions

SaaS customers must now use a Trusted Agent for the Content from a File token and the following Actions when they will run on a server. This includes the Browser Client, CSM Portal, Cherwell REST API, Automation Processes, and the Scheduler running in a two-tier configuration.
  • Print
  • Run a Program
  • Run a Report
  • Write to a File
  • Transfer Attachments
  • Excel Merge

Use the SaaS One-Step Action Check Health Check rule to determine which Actions need to be configured to work on a hosted environment. See SaaS One-Step Action Check. This rule is only available to systems using a SaaS license.

Important:One-Step Actions listed in the results will not run until you configure them to use a Trusted Agent.

Verify the Cherwell Application Server Path in IIS

Verify the Cherwell Application Server virtual directory in IIS is pointing to the correct path. If the path still contains Program Files (x86), update the path.

To verify the virtual directory physical path:

  1. Open IIS.
  2. In the Connections pane, right-click the CherwellAppServer virtual directory.
  3. Select Manage Application > Advanced Settings.
  4. Verify the Physical Path field does NOT include Program Files (x86). If it does, select the ellipsis button and navigate to C:\Program Files\Cherwell Service Management\Cherwell Application Server.
  5. Select OK.

Use the System Restore Tool to install the Cherwell Demo .czar

If you keep the default .czar selection (CherwellDemo.czar) when installing CSM, the ESMDemo.czar is installed instead. To install the correct .czar, use the System Restore tool to restore CherwellDemo.czar from the media folder in the installation package.

Automatically Updating the Trusted Agent Server

CSM now automatically checks for updates to the Trusted Agent Server. This feature is automatically enabled, but you can disable it in the Cherwell Configuration Manager when you install the Trusted Agent Server. On the Enable Trusted Agent Auto Update screen, clear the Enable Auto Update checkbox.

Specify Installation Folder for Auto-Deploy

If you choose to install Auto-Deploy, use the Auto-Deploy Configuration window to change the default value of the Target Folder field. Change the default value to remove (x86) from the file path, or update the target folder to where you want to install Auto-Deploy. See Configure Auto-Deploy Options for more information on configuration options.

Password Prompt

During the upgrade process, when you're prompted for a password, you can change the default password (admin) to any value or you can type in the same default value of admin.

Upgrades from Versions Earlier than CSM 5.x

Due to the removal of deprecated DevExpress components, if you are upgrading from a version earlier than CSM 5.x, you must first upgrade to a version in the CSM 10.2.x line before upgrading to CSM 10.4.0 and later.

Custom Language Packs

Platform strings for custom language packs are not updated as part of the upgrade process. After the base platform strings are updated, update any custom language packs you have installed to include the new strings in custom languages.

For information on updating the language packs, see https://forums.ivanti.com/s/article/Certain-CSM-Platform-Menu-Options-Are-Missing-or-Overlap.
