Discovery Configuration

In the Service Manager Release 2016.2, a new Discovery workspace was introduced, which provides a portal for the workspaces, configurations, queues, and diagnostics necessary to manage your installation of Discovery. The tab must be added to your role before you can see it.

Some functionality available from this portal can only be accessed and configured by administrators.

The Discovery Configuration workspace consists of a panel linked to other workspaces that Discovery Managers, Discovery Analysts, and administrators use to manage and configure the following discovery tasks:

Item Workspace/Tool Description

Business Objects

 

CI Creates and manages IT assets (configuration items).

Gateway

Creates and manages gateways and gateway settings.

Config Inventory Settings Creates and manages inventory settings.
CI Location Creates and manages configuration item locations.
Asset Data Mapping Sets up data mappings between audit message data fields and asset (configuration item) data fields.

Diagnostics

 

 

Message Queue

Lists audit and task messages that are being processed or that are queued for processing.

Message Queue Journal

Lists audit and task messages that have been processed. This list is an archive that can be used to diagnose issues (if any) and is periodically trimmed.

Logs

Lists logs.

To easily find a log, use the Service Name column to group similar logs.

Tools

 

Import Discovery 9x and SCCM Guide to migrate records from Discovery Release 9.3.x and later, to Discovery using the Discovery Release 9.x connector.

Installer Downloads

Tool to diagnose (troubleshoot) Discovery issues. It performs a number of tests and detects communication failures between services that are part of Discovery.

Adding the Discovery Configuration workspace to a role

1.From the Configuration console, select Configure > Users and Permissions > Roles and Permissions.

2.Click the role to add this workspace. The Role Details workspace opens.

3.Click the Top Level Tabs tab.

4.Under the Tab Title column, click the Discovery tab .

5.Edit the name to Discovery Configuration.

6.Click Save.

7.Return to the Service Desk console. Refresh the application to see the Discovery Configuration workspace.
