Providing the Required Servers in the DMZ
The number of the required DSM servers in the DMZ largely depends on the tasks within the DMZ. These requirements do not differ from the requirements for the general DSM infrastructure. The minimum requirements of a DSM site in the DMZ are one server as depot and Management Point (see HTTP Depot and Management Points in a DMZ).
In any case, the Business Logic application Relay Proxy must be installed on the Management Point. The Transport Layer and the Event Dispatcher are automatically installed together with the Relay Proxy.
Examples for Configurations in the DMZ
To help you plan your DMZ, check out the following example scenarios:
- DMZ Scenario 1: Manage External Workstations with DSM
This scenario shows you a DSM site in the DMZ with the minimum requirements. - DMZ Scenario 2: Provide a DSM Infrastructure to a Customer
In this scenario, the Service Provider in the DMZ uses a server as Management Point with Transport Layer, Distribution Service and HTTP/HTTPS depot.
On the other side, i.e. the customer side, is a server in the DMZ as Management Point with Transport Layer and HTTP depot.
Notes for Servers with Different Names
Note the following on servers in a DMZ that are using a different name on the outside:
- When you install the Management Point the first time, always use the physical server name. After that you may change the name of the Management Point server in the configuration table.
- Specify the following registry settings:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters
