Update Overview
When you update to a new version of DSM, all of the depots and Management Points must be updated. The update allows for:
- Short downtime
- Support of DMZ scenarios
- High transparency
The DSM update consists of three phases:
- Installation of new sources from a DVD, Service Pack, or a HotFix Bundle in a child directory of the ORG Master Share. The ORG Master Share is not modified at this point. See Installing and Packaging the Update.
- Distribution of the new sources to all depots.
- Decentralized update of all depots including the ORG Master Share and all Management Points.
This process reduces the downtime of the environment, since the actual update affects the environment only during the last phase. Even without a good network connection, the downtime of the environment does not last long.
The Update Manager manages the entire process.
See Using the Update Manager for details on the functionality and the processes.
When deploying changes to a production system, whether this is a configuration change, or upgrading the version of your application, HEAT Software strongly recommends you follow good change control practices. Please ensure all changes are tested in staging and UAT environments before migration, and that proper backups of all databases are in place before upgrade and a back-out plan is in place if any issues occur.
