Getting Started with Printer Management
Securely connect Zebra LinkOS weblink enabled printers to your existing Avalanche ecosystem. Discover printers in the warehouse and bring them under management with a streamlined, remote provisioning process. Once your printers are managed by Avalanche, push files and settings to them, receive real-time alerts from them, and view their status remotely.
Configuring Avalanche for printer management
1.Install a printer device server. Printer device servers can be installed during a new, full install of Avalanche, or in an existing environment by running the device server installer. For information about installing a printer device server using the device server installer, see Installing Device Servers.
2.Create a printer device server profile. Printer device server profiles are used to configure the printer device server. This is also where SSL certificates are added to the server. The printer device server must be secured with an SSL certificate to communicate with printers. 3.Create a folder for printers. Printer management uses dynamic placement to assign newly enrolled printers to folders. It is important to create a folder with printer selection criteria before enrolling printers. For more information, see Using the Printer Inventory.
•Enroll printer devices. Discover printers on your network, and bring them under management with Avalanche's remote provisioning process. For information about discovering and enrolling printers, see Connecting Printer Devices.
•Create payloads to configure printers. Use printer payloads to configure device settings and restrictions from the Avalanche console. For information about available printer payloads, see Printer Payloads.
•Perform actions from the console. Click on a printer in the printer inventory to view printer properties and perform tasks such as rebooting the device, resetting the device odometer, or wiping the device. For information about the available tasks, see Printer Tasks from the Console.
•Communicate directly with printers. Use the printer communication terminal to send SGD, ZPL, or JSON commands directly to your printers. For more information, see Communicating Directly with a Printer
•Printer alerts. By default, you will receive alerts about many aspects of your printers. To view alerts, see Viewing Alerts. To customize which alerts you receive, see Creating and Configuring Alert Profiles.
