Getting Started

The Velocity Client is an application installed on Android devices and supports IBM 5250/3270 and VT100/220 hosts. The Client connects to applications on remote host and emulates a terminal interface. It can use SSH, SSL/TLS, HTTP, or HTTPS to connect to an emulation host.

Through the use of the Velocity Console, you can import and edit screens, create custom keyboards, and associate host profiles that you can use on the Velocity Client. Projects created using this application can then be exported to devices and used as default settings and connection options for web hosts using emulation types like IBM 5250/3270 and VT100/220. This application is ideal for users that need to set up multiple Smart devices with the same Client settings. For more information about the Velocity Console application, see the Velocity Console User Guide.

The Velocity Client can be configured to connect to a host through a Ivanti ConnectPro proxy server. ConnectPro is an optional component of both Terminal Emulation and Velocity that handles session persistence. ConnectPro acts as a proxy between the Smart device and emulation host. If the device loses connectivity or goes to sleep, the ConnectPro server maintains the session until the device reconnects. ConnectPro is free with Velocity, but is installed separately. For information on installing and using ConnectPro, see the ConnectPro User Guide on the Ivanti website. For more information on configuring host profiles, see Configuring Host Profiles.

The Velocity Client comes with a built-in HTML and CSS rendering engine to give traditional black-and-green screens a more modern appearance and achieve easier navigation. By default, it utilizes predictive formatting to automatically apply a more modern appearance to your existing screen capture elements, like screen backgrounds, text color and font type, and commands. Though you can alter the presentation of screens with branding to match your company's style guides, it cannot be changed directly from the Client. For more information, see Using the Velocity Console.

The Velocity Client is designed to work with custom keyboards created through the Velocity Console. With this tool, you can create custom keyboard layouts, complete with unique key values and styles that can then be assigned to appear only on specific screens or fields. Keyboards created using this application can then be exported to devices and used in place of the default Velocity Client keyboards. For information on using the Velocity Console, see the Velocity Console User Guide.

The Velocity Client is licensed either manually through the Client, or by using a Ivanti License Server. To obtain licenses, contact Ivanti Customer Support.
