Synchronizing Software
Following installation, HEAT PatchLink DeskTop for System Center immediately synchronizes with HEAT Cloud Services. This
action downloads the latest HEAT PatchLink DeskTop Catalog, which is a list of all third-party software that
HEAT Software prepares for use with System Center Configuration Manager.
By default, HEAT PatchLink DeskTop synchronizes according to the Windows Server Update Services synchronization schedule. Rarely,
if ever, do you need to initiate a sync yourself. In fact, you can skip to Publishing Software and come back to this chapter later.
However, this chapter provides helpful information about what occurs during the sync and how you can customize the sync process.
- What Happens During Synchronization?
During synchronization, HEAT PatchLink DeskTop downloads the HEAT PatchLink DeskTop Catalog and the other files needed to stay up-to-date.
- Activity History
This view is useful for reviewing information about what occurred during synchronization and publication events.
- Recently Added
After HEAT PatchLink DeskTop for System Center synchronizes, updates to the HEAT PatchLink DeskTop Catalog are displayed in Recently Added. The last 50 3rd-party software items added or updated are listed. Visit this view following syncs to stay updated on the latest additions to HEAT PatchLink DeskTop.
- Updating the Synchronization Schedule
Synchronizations with HEAT Cloud Services can be scheduled anywhere from hourly to monthly. Generally, the default setting (using the Windows Server Update Services synchronization schedule) is fine, but if you want to check for updates less often, you can change the sync schedule.
- Synchronizing Now
Rather than waiting for HEAT PatchLink DeskTop to automatically synchronize (the process of checking for a new HEAT PatchLink DeskTop Catalog), you can choose to synchronize immediately.
