Managing VPP Application Licenses

In the Avalanche Console, you can activate Apple VPP integration to view and manage how all of your purchased licenses are distributed. Avalanche allows you to identify the total number of licenses currently in use, what devices or users possess licenses, and the number of remaining available licenses.

When a license is deployed to a user's device through a software payload and associated with the device's Apple ID account, it appears on your Purchased Apps list. You can then download and install the app on all other iOS devices you use that Apple ID on, even if the device isn't managed by Avalanche.

To manage application licenses from Avalanche:

1.From the Avalanche Console, click Tools > Apple VPP.

2.Enter your Apple Volume Purchase Program Token. If you have not already enrolled in Apple VPP to obtain a token, see Apple Deployment Programs.

All application license purchases associated with your Apple ID display below.

3.Navigate to the Inventory screen.

4.Click Needs Deployment and then Finish to deploy the VPP settings to the Smart device server. Deployment must only be performed when you modify the VPP token.

The VPP enrollment request is deployed to all enrolled iOS devices.

In the Avalanche Console, clicking on an application name will display a dialog listing all licenses currently in use. Each license identifies the device it is assigned to by either device name for group enrollment or user account for LDAP.

To distribute licenses to enrolled devices, see Software Payload (Android/iOS/Windows Phone). To revoke licenses, see Revoking VPP Licenses from a Device.

To enroll iOS devices in VPP:

1.After deploying the VPP settings, all enrolled iOS devices receive the prompt: Allow App and Book Assignment? You must accept this prompt and sign in with your device's Apple ID for you to receive VPP licenses on the device.

2.Tap Continue.

3.Tap Sign In.

4.Enter your Apple ID account password.

5.After the Terms & Conditions screen, tap OK to complete device enrollment for VPP management.

Avalanche can now distribute and revoke licensed apps on the iOS device. The VPP Signup weblink icon is also installed on your device's screen. If you tapped Cancel at the initial prompt instead of Continue, you must launch VPP Signup to complete the enrollment process for the device. Some devices using iOS 7.0 may not encounter the initial prompt and must use the VPP Signup link to complete enrollment. Once you successfully enroll your device, you can delete this icon.

6.When a licensed app is deployed to an enrolled device, tap Install to install the app payload. This will not charge the device's Apple ID account.

Each time a licensed app is deployed, you're prompted from the device to sign in with your Apple ID. Signing in is required to identify all corporate-owned licenses installed on your device and add them to your Purchased Apps list. This does not give Avalanche access to the Apple ID account associated with the iOS device, so you can use your personal account if needed.
