Editing Smart Mobile Device Profiles
In order to manage Smart devices, create payloads for specific settings and then associate those payloads with a Smart mobile device profile. For most types of payloads, you can have multiple payloads of the same type in the same profile. However, some payload types only allow you to have one payload of that type for each profile. For Restrictions payloads, you can have one for iOS and one for Android associated with each profile.
If there is more than one Restrictions, APN, or Passcode payload applied, the device will use the payload associated with the highest priority profile at that location. To determine the priority of a profile at a specific location, navigate to the location and view the Applied Profiles panel on the Profiles tab.
In order to apply the settings in the payloads, you must apply the profile to a folder and then synchronize the settings. The next time that the device connects, it will download the payloads and apply the settings. If there are software payloads associated with the profile, the device user is prompted to install the software.
When creating a profile, you can choose to force a device to reboot when it receives the profile. Upon syncing and installing any associated payload settings, the device automatically reboots. You can also choose to invoke an application. When a device syncs and installs any associated software payloads, this profile setting forces the device to automatically launch the affected app on the device.
Some selection criteria are built in to the payloads. For example, a device will only receive payloads created for the OS the device is running. When a profile is applied, you can use additional selection criteria to determine which devices will receive the payload. Payloads are not associated with a specific folder in your company. Each payload created is available to any folder in the company.
When a payload is removed from a profile, the settings associated with the payload are deleted from the device. For example, if you use a profile to send a file to devices, then remove the payload from the profile associated with the device, the device does not retain the file. The only exception to this is the WiFi payload, and devices will retain WiFi credentials until a selective wipe is performed at the device level.
