Revoking VPP Licenses from a Device

Each Apple VPP license you own can only be given to one user. When a license is assigned, it is unavailable for reassignment until you revoke it from the device. When a license is revoked, the original license user loses the ability to download, install, and launch the app from all of their iOS devices. Users can still purchase their own license and download the app.

Removing a device from Avalanche, wiping the device, or deleting the software payload delivering the licenses will revoke all licenses associated.

To revoke application licenses:

1.From the Avalanche Console, click Tools > Apple VPP.

2.Select the application you want to manage licenses for.

3.Select the checkbox next to an individual license. Multiple licenses can be selected and revoked at once.

4.Click the Revoking Software License button.

The Revoking Software License dialog appears.

5.Click Revoke.

The device no longer appears in the list of used licenses.

After revoking a license, you should unenroll the device or move it to another folder location in Avalanche. If the iOS device is still located in a device folder that receives the software payload containing that app, the next time the device checks in it will receive the license again.

If a license is revoked from a device:

When the device checks in, you receive a prompt indicating the license was revoked for the app. Revoking a software license from a device causes the following actions at the device level:

•You are notified from the device through a prompt that the application is no longer licensed.

•The application is removed from your device's associated Apple ID Purchased Apps list.

•If the app is already installed on the device, you can continue using the software as part of a 30-day grace period, after which the app will stop launching.

The 30-day grace period for a revoked license will not prevent administrators from immediately reassigning the license to another device in Avalanche. Revoked licenses are immediately available for use.
