TE Client Settings Payload (Android/iOS)
A TE Client Settings payload sends emulation parameters to the TE Client installed on a Smart device. The emulation parameters are global (not host-specific), so you can only send one payload of this type to each device.
A TE client settings configuration payload has the following options:
Enter key swapped |
Uses the Enter key as Send instead of Field Exit. This option does not affect the keys on the TE virtual keyboards. |
Enable free cursor |
Allows the user to move the cursor into protected areas of the screen after they use the keyboard to toggle Free Cursor mode. |
Oversized scanning |
Determines what to do if scanned data is too large for the entry field. |
Retry Workstation ID |
Allows the TE Client to retry the workstation ID with a letter appended to it. |
Use enter as reset |
Uses the Enter key as a Reset key if the terminal is in an error state. |
Initial Caps Lock state |
Sets the keyboard to open with Caps lock on when enabled. |
Host message line (Android only) |
Assigns the screen row that contains host messages. A value of 0 ignores host messages. If the value specified is more than the number of lines on the screen, it will be reduced by three lines. For example, if you set this value to 27 and then switch to a 80x24 screen, it is treated as 24. |
Auto Send Scans |
Automatically sends to the host after a barcode is scanned. |
Backspace Sends Delete |
Sends a delete <7F> instead of a backspace <08> when the backspace key is pressed. |
Ignore 8-bit Received Control Codes |
Treats 8-bit control codes as extended characters. |
New Answer Back |
Displays a string on the mobile device when it receives an ENQ from the host. It supports the following variables: •%m - %r representing the six octets of the MAC address. •%a - %d representing the four octets of the IP address. •%s representing the session number. •%t representing the terminal ID (Avalanche only). For example, if you want the response to an ENQ to be the full MAC address, use: |
VT Line Mode |
Simulates line mode behavior for hosts that do not support it. |
Local Echo |
Specifies whether the terminal uses local echo to reflect what is sent to the host. |
Initial Caps Lock State |
Sets the keyboard to open with Caps lock on when enabled. |
Handle Telxon Sequences |
Supports Telxon escape sequences from the host. |
Telxon Special Scan Terminator |
Sets a Telxon terminator appended to scanned data. |
Scan Terminator |
Sets information appended each time scanned data is entered. |
Server Address |
The address of the TE License Server. |
Server Port |
The port the License Server will be using to provide licenses. |
Site ID |
The Site ID to use when requesting licenses from the License Server. This is only required when you have configured the License server to use Site IDs. |
Add |
Allows you to use a macro to replace a key with another key. |
Timing Mark |
Sends timing marks to the host to determine if the session is still alive. |
Log Activity |
Creates a log of network activity for the session. The log is stored in the first listed mounted storage on the device (not part of the root file system). This may be either internal storage or an SD card. |
Log Max Size |
The maximum size of the session log file (kB). When the log reaches its max file size, the current contents are written to a backup log file and a new log file is started. If a backup log file currently exists, it is overwritten. |
Signal Quality Threshold |
Sets a required minimum signal quality for devices connected to a network. Enter a signal strength value between 0 and 100, where 0 poor and 100 is excellent. When the wireless signal on a device drops below the specified quality value, the device's keyboard and scanner become disabled. By default, this is set to 0. This is for Android devices only. |
Advanced Password |
Restricts access to editing host profiles at the device level. When a password is set, Smart devices prompt the user for a password to edit existing host profiles. If no password is set, users can edit host profiles from the device. If no password is set, the default password is system. |
Configuration Password |
Restricts access to the Settings page at the device level. When a password is set, Smart devices will prompt the user for a password to edit Client settings. If no password is set, the default password is config. |
Lock orientation |
Locks screen to default orientation for device. |
Fixed Screen |
Each time a screen is received from the host, the screen is set to display row 1, column 1 in the upper left corner. |
Default Font Size |
Sets the zoom level when connected to the host. When this is set to 0, the Client will calculate an optimum size. |
Disable Pan and Zoom |
Disables the ability to pan and zoom when connected to a host. |
Disable keyboard minimizing |
Disables the option to minimize the keyboard. |
Keyboard Height (portrait) |
Sets the height of the onscreen keyboard as a percentage of the screen when the device is in portrait orientation. |
Keyboard Height (landscape) |
Sets the height of the onscreen keyboard as a percentage of the screen when the device is in landscape orientation. |
Hide Android title bar (Android only) |
Hides the Android title bar. |
Beep Volume |
Sets the beep volume. |
Incoming screen beep |
Beeps when a new screen is sent from the host. This option is for 5250 and 3270 emulation only. |
Silent Mode |
Disables all TE Client beeping. |
These settings will only work on Android devices using a Motorola scanner.
Enable/Disable Barcode Symbology |
Configures which barcode decoders are enabled or disabled. We recommend disabling unnecessary decoders to improve device performance. |
Enable Magnetic Stripe Reader |
Enables the device's magnetic stripe reader. |
Decoder Settings (Motorola only)
These settings will only work on Android devices using a Motorola scanner.
CodaBar |
•CLSI Editing. Removes the start and stop characters and inserts a space after the first, fifth, and tenth characters on a 13-character Codabar symbol. •Lower limit of length range. Sets the lower limit for decoding Codabar symbols with a specific length range. For example, to decode Codabar symbols with between 8 and 24 characters, set this value to eight. By default, this is set to 6. •Upper limit of length range. Sets the upper limit for decoding Codabar symbols with a specific length range. For example, to decode Codabar symbols with between 8 and 24 characters, set this value to 24. By default, this is set to 55. •NOTIS Editing. Removes the start and stop characters from a Codabar symbol. •Redundancy. Forces the device to read the barcode twice before accepting data. |
Code 11 |
•Lower limit of length range. Sets the lower limit for decoding Code 11 symbols with a specific length range. For example, to decode Code 11 symbols with between 4 and 12 characters, set this value to four. By default, this is set to 4. •Upper limit of length range. Sets the upper limit for decoding Code 11 symbols with a specific length range. For example, to decode Code 11 symbols with between 4 and 12 characters, set this value to 12. By default, this is set to 55. •Redundancy. Forces the device to read the barcode twice before accepting data. •Report Check Digit. Transmits Code 11 data with a check digit. •Verify Check Digit. Checks all Code 11 symbols to verify that scanned data complies with the selected check digit algorithm. You can pick No Check Digit, 1 Check Digit, or 2 Check Digit. |
Code 128 |
•Check ISBT Table. Checks for ISBT barcodes against a table of commonly used in pairs. If ISTB 128 Concatenation Mode is enabled, selecting this option will concatenate only those pairs found in the table. •Enable GS1-128. Enables the use of GS1-128 subtypes. •Enable Plain Code 128. Enables the use of other non-EAN or ISBT Code 128 subtypes. •Enable ISBT 128. Enables the use of ISBT128 subtypes. •Lower limit of length range. Sets the lower limit for decoding Code 128 symbols with a specific length range. For example, to decode Code 128 symbols with between 8 and 24 characters, set this value to eight. By default, this is set to 0. •Upper limit of length range. Sets the upper limit for decoding Code 128 symbols with a specific length range. For example, to decode Code 128 symbols with between 8 and 24 characters, set this value to 24. By default, this is set to 55. •ISBT 128 Concatenation Mode. Decodes and concatenates pairs of ISBT codes when found. If a single ISBT symbol is present, the device decodes the symbol the number of times set with the Redundancy option before transmitting data. If not selected, the device won't concatenate pairs of ISBT codes when found. •Redundancy. Forces the device to read the barcode twice before accepting data. If Check ISBT Table is selected, this option is checked and cannot be edited. •Security Level. Uses a level of decode security for Code 128 barcodes. Higher levels of security are used to reduce misdecodes at the cost of barcode quality. You can pick between Security Level 0, Security Level 1, Security Level 2, and Security Level 3. |
Code 39 |
•Convert Code 39 to Code 32. Enables scanning a barcode to enable or disable the use of the Code 32 variant. •Full ASCII. Enables the use of a Code 39 variant that pairs characters to encode to the full ASCII character set. •Lower limit of length range. Sets the lower limit for decoding Code 39 symbols with a specific length range. For example, to decode Code 39 symbols with between 8 and 24 characters, set this value to eight. By default, this is set to 0. •Upper limit of length range. Sets the upper limit for decoding Code 39 symbols with a specific length range. For example, to decode Code 39 symbols with between 8 and 24 characters, set this value to 24. By default, this is set to 55. •Redundancy. Forces the device to read the barcode twice before accepting data. •Report Check Digit. Transmits Code 39 data with a check digit. •Report Code 32 Prefix. Enables scanning a barcode to enable or disable adding the prefix character "A" to all Code 32 barcodes. •Verify Check Digit. Checks all Code 39 symbols to verify that scanned data complies with the selected check digit algorithm. Enable this feature only if the Code 39 symbols contain a modulo 43 check digit. •Security Level. Uses a level of decode security for Code 39 barcodes. Higher levels of security are used to reduce misdecodes at the cost of barcode quality. You can pick between Security Level 0, Security Level 1, Security Level 2, and Security Level 3. |
Code 93 |
•Lower limit of length range. Sets the lower limit for decoding Code 93 symbols with a specific length range. For example, to decode Code 93 symbols with between 4 and 12 characters, set this value to four. By default, this is set to 0 . •Upper limit of length range. •UCC Link Mode. Enables UCC Link Mode. You can pick Auto Discriminate, Link Flag Ignored, or Always Linked. |
Discrete 2 of 5 |
•Lower limit of length range. Sets the lower limit for decoding a Discrete 2 of 5 symbol with a specific length range. For example, to decode a Discrete 2 of 5 symbol with between 4 and 12 characters, set this value to four. By default, this is set to 0 . •Upper limit of length range. Interleaved 2 of 5 |
•Check Digit. Defines the use of check digits in Interleaved 2 of 5 symbols. The following options are available for selection: •No Check Digit. A check digit is not used. •USS Check Digit. Checks the integrity of all Interleaved 2 of 5 symbols to ensure compliance with the Uniform Symbology Specification (USS) check digit algorithm. •OPCC Check Digit. Checks the integrity of all Interleaved 2 of 5 symbols to ensure compliance with the Optical Product Code Council (OPCC) check digit algorithm. •Convert ITF-14 to EAN 13. Converts 14-character Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes to EAN-13 and then transmits them as EAN-13. To use this option, Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes must be enabled and have a leading zero before a valid EAN-13 check digit. •Lower limit of length range. Sets the lower limit for decoding an Interleaved 2 of 5 symbol with a specific length range. For example, to decode an Interleaved 2 of 5 symbol with between 4 and 12 characters, set this value to four. By default, this is set to 10. •Upper limit of length range. Sets the upper limit for decoding an Interleaved 2 of 5 symbol with a specific length range. For example, to decode an Interleaved 2 of 5 symbol with between 4 and 12 characters, set this value to 12. By default, this is set to 14. •Redundancy. Forces the device to read the barcode twice before accepting data. •Report Check Digit. Transmits Interleaved 2 of 5 data with a check digit. •Security Level. Uses a level of decode security for Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes. Higher levels of security are used to reduce misdecodes at the cost of barcode quality. You can pick between Security Level 0, Security Level 1, Security Level 2, and Security Level 3. |
Matrix 2 of 5 |
•Lower limit of length range. Sets the lower limit for decoding a Matrix 2 of 5 symbol with a specific length range. MSI |
•Check Digit. Checks all MSI symbols to verify that scanned data complies with the selected check digit algorithm. You can pick between One Check Digit or Two Check Digit. •Check Digit Scheme. Selects the algorithm used to verify the second MSI check digit. You can pick between Mod-11-10 or Mod-10-10. •Lower limit of length range. Sets the lower limit for decoding an MSI symbol with a specific length range. For example, to decode an MSI symbol with between 4 and 12 characters, set this value to four. By default, this is set to 4. •Upper limit of length range. Sets the upper limit for decoding an MSI symbol with a specific length range. For example, to decode an MSI symbol with between 4 and 12 characters, set this value to 12. By default, this is set to 55. •Redundancy. Forces the device to read the barcode twice before accepting data. •Report Check Digit. Transmits MSI data with the check digits. |
UK Postal |

Reader Settings (Motorola only)
These settings will only work on Android devices using a Motorola scanner.
Beam Timer |
Sets the maximum amount of time the reader will remain on. If set to 0, the reader will stay on indefinitely. This can be set between 0 and 60,000 milliseconds in increments of 100 milliseconds. By default, this is set to 15,000 milliseconds. |
Illumination Mode |
Turns illumination on. |
Inverse 1D Mode |
Allows the decoding of 1D barcodes. The following options are available for selection: •Disable. Disables the decoding of inverse 1D symbols. •Enable. Enables the decoding of only inverse 1D symbols. •Auto. Enables the decoding of both positive and inverse 1D symbols. |
LCD Mode |
Allows the device to read barcodes from LCD displays, such as Smart phones. |
Linear Security Level |
Sets the number of times a barcode is read to confirm accurate decoding. •Security Short or Codabar. If a barcode is short or Codabar, it is read twice for redundancy. •Security All Twice. All barcodes are read twice for redundancy. •Security Long and Short. All long barcodes are read twice and all short barcodes are read three times for redundancy. •Security All Thrice. All barcodes are read three times for redundancy. |
Low Power Timeout |
Sets the interval for how long a device should remain inactive before running in low-power mode. This interval is measured in milliseconds. |
Picklist |
Allows the device to only decode the barcode located directly under the cross-hair part of the pattern. This is used when multiple barcodes appear in the field of view when decoding and only one is targeted for decoding. The following options are available for selection: •Disabled. Disables Picklist mode, and any barcode within the field of view will be decoded. •Enabled (Reticle). Enables Picklist mode so that the barcode directly under the cross-hair is decoded. •Centered. Enables Picklist mode so that only the barcode located at the center of the image is decoded. This mode is only usable by decoder modules that support viewfinders. |
ViewFinder Mode |
Displays viewfinder modes for targeted scanning. The following options are available for selection: •Static Reticle. Enables the viewfinder as well as a red reticle in the center of the screen to assist with selecting a barcode. •ViewFinder Disable. Disables the viewfinder. •ViewFinder Enable. Enables only the viewfinder. |

Code ID Type |
Determines the code ID character used to define the code type of a scanned barcode. This option is recommended when decoding more than one code type. The following options are available for selection: •None. No prefix is used. •AIM. A standards-based three character prefix. •Symbol. A symbol-defined single character prefix. |
Data Capture LED ID |
Sets the Data Capture LED ID. This is set to 8 by default. |
Decode Audio Feedback |
Sets an audio tone to sound upon a good decode. |
Decode Feedback LED Timer |
Sets how long the audio tone plays in milliseconds upon a good decode. This is set to 75 by default. |
Decode Haptic Feedback |
Enables the device to vibrate upon a good decode. |
UPC/EAN Settings (Motorola only)
These settings will only work on Android devices using a Motorola scanner.
Bookland Code |
Enables the decoding of Bookland data. |
Bookland Format |
Specifies a format for Bookland data decoded. The following options are available for selection: •ISBN-10. The scanner reports Bookland data (starting with 978) in the 10-digit format with a check digit to ensure backward compatibility. •ISBN-13. The scanner reports Bookland data (starting with either 978 or 979) as EAN-13 in the appropriate format. |
Convert DataBar To UPC EAN |
Converts DataBar barcodes to UPC/EAN format. To use this setting, UPC/EAN symbologies must be enabled on the Barcode/MSR tab. |
Coupon |
Enables coupon code decoding. To ensure devices are able to successfully decode coupon codes, all of the required decoders must be enabled. |
Coupon Report Mode |
Sets the supported coupon modes that a scanner can decode. The following options are available for selection: •Old Coupon Report Mode. The scanner will decode only the old coupon format. •New Coupon Report Mode. The scanner will decode only the new GS1 DataBar coupon format. •Both Coupon Report Mode. The scanner will decode both the old coupon format as well as the new GS1 DataBar coupon format. |
Linear Decode |
Enables linear decoding. |
Random Weight Check Digit |
Enables random weight check digit verifications. |
Retry Count |
Sets a retry count for auto-discriminating supplementals. Possible values are between 2 and 20. This field is only valid if Supplemental Mode is set to Supplementals Auto, Supplementals Smart, Supplementals 378-379, Supplementals 978-979, Supplementals 977, or Supplementals 414-419-434-439. |
Security Level |
Uses a level of decode security for UPC/EAN barcodes. Higher levels of security are used to reduce misdecodes at the cost of barcode quality. You can pick between Security Level 0, Security Level 1, Security Level 2, and Security Level 3. |
Supplemental 2 |
Enables the decoding of Supplemental 2 data. |
Supplemental 5 |
Enables the decoding of Supplemental 5 data. |
Supplemental Mode |
Enables the decoding of supplemental symbols and specific UPC/EAN codes. The following options are available for selection: •No Supplementals. The scanner is presented with a UPC/EAN and supplemental symbol, but the scanner only decodes the UPC/EAN characters. •Always. The scanner decodes only UPC/EAN symbols containing supplemental characters. •Auto. The scanner decodes UPC/EAN symbols with and without supplemental characters. •Smart. Enables smart supplementals. The decoder returns decoded values of the main block if they don't belong to one of the following supplemental types: 378, 379, 977, 978, 979, 414, 419, 434, or 439. •Supplemental 378-379. Enables auto-discriminate supplemental for UPC/EAN codes starting with 378 or 379. Any other barcodes not starting with these digits are ignored. •Supplemental 978-979. Enables auto-discriminate supplemental for UPC/EAN codes starting with 978 or 979. Any other barcodes not starting with these digits are ignored. •Supplemental 414-419-434-439. Enables auto-discriminate supplemental for UPC/EAN codes starting with 414, 419, 434, or 439. Any other barcodes not starting with these digits are ignored. •Supplemental 977. Enables auto-discriminate supplemental for UPC/EAN codes starting with 977. Any other barcodes not starting with this digit are ignored. |
Basic data formatting (Motorola only)
These settings will only work on Android devices using a Motorola scanner.
Enable |
Enables or disables to use of basic data formatting settings. This is enabled by default. |
Prefix to data |
Adds characters to the beginning of the scanned data sent. |
Suffix to data |
Adds characters to the end of the scanned data sent. |
Send data |
Transfers captured data to the foreground application. This is enabled by default. Disabling the option prevents actual data from being transmitted, though prefix and suffix strings are still transmitted. |
Send as hex |
Sends the scanned data in hexadecimal format. |
Send TAB key |
Appends a tab character to the end of the scanned data. |
Send ENTER key |
Appends an Enter character to the end of the scanned data. |
To create a TE client settings payload:
1.From the Profiles tab, click New Payload in the Available Payloads panel.
2.The Payload dialog box appears. Select the iOS and Android option and then click TE Client Settings.
3.The emulation parameters appear. Parameters are organized by the tabs on the left. Configure the payload and click Save.
To apply the settings on devices, add the payload to an Application Configuration profile and apply the profile to a folder. Once you have performed a deployment, licensed devices assigned to that folder receive the settings the next time they check in. If a device is unlicensed, print the QR code associated with the folder and scan it with the device to configure the Client.
